My new body of work confronts the paradox of being both outside and inside a system I criticise.
“Suffocate the Bourgeois” is not a sermon. It’s a personal exploration of a modern middle class, with its increasing needs for curation over all else, even as it feeds an ever increasingly hungry algorithm for our overlords to data‑harvest.
Taken from a portrait I pained titled Kunst: 2020 the piece speaks of an artist living with their internal contradictions. When i'm exploring my own contradictions, I look at my upbringing.
Historically, the bourgeoisie were the property‑owning middle class, mocked for their materialism and zeal for respectability.
My layered paintings create space for viewers to confront their own internal contradictions, painting over and obscuring the original image, creating a modern-day organic filter.
