Towering Self

In this  series, I was exploring the concept of self as a tower—each tower myself, composed of the layers of memory, behavior, and experience that accumulate daily.

I see these towers as metaphors for how we build identity—sometimes on stable ground, sometimes on shaky foundations. The base of each tower reveals this—in most, the foundation is unresolved, unfinished, leaving the figure perched precariously on uncertain ground.

These blurred lines between tower and background—where the form is indistinct—reflect the environment, the social and cultural forces that shape us. Yet, in some paintings, the tower stands solid: its foundation is clear, and each memory, each layer is precise, sealed. Here, identity is a steady structure, fully formed, resisting dissolution into the background. In this way, the series is a study of the delicate tension between foundation and flux—between who we are and how we are shaped.
